Troubleshooting Errors
Recharge Error Messages
If you enter a voucher code and receive an error message, first wait two minutes and check your balance via the USSD code (*102# for most). Sometimes the network applies the credit even if the confirmation message fails. If the balance hasn't changed, double-check the 14 digits.
Lost or Damaged Cards
If you accidentally scratch off the numbers on a physical card, do not throw it away. Take a clear photo of the card, especially the serial number, and visit the nearest carrier branch in Salalah or Muscat. The serial number allows the carrier to verify the unused code in their system.
Wrong Number Transfers
If you mistakenly send credit to the wrong number via a digital app, it is very difficult to reverse. We recommend always double-checking the recipient's number. Some carriers may assist if you contact them immediately, but there is no guarantee of a refund.
Always verify the provider logo on the physical voucher matches your active SIM carrier. Cross-carrier recharges are mathematically incompatible.
Operational Protocols
International Recharge from Abroad
Omani SIM cards can be topped up from outside the country. The easiest method is using the official carrier app with a credit card. Alternatively, international top-up platforms support Omantel, Ooredoo, and FRiENDi globally.
Balance Depreciation & Background Data
The most common cause for "disappearing" credit is background data usage. Smartphones often download updates or sync photos in the background. To prevent this, always buy a data bundle immediately after recharging or turn off mobile data when not in use.
SIM Deactivation & Expiry
In Oman, if a SIM card is not recharged for several months, it enters a "deactivated" state. You can usually reactivate it by visiting a store and paying a small fee. If left inactive for over 6 months, the number may be permanently disconnected.
Detailed Inquiries
How do I check which carrier I am on?
Your SIM card will have the logo printed on it. In Oman, numbers starting with 91, 92, 93, 98, or 99 are usually Omantel, while 94, 95, 96, and 97 are often Ooredoo. However, due to number portability, the only sure way is checking the network name on your phone screen.
Can I use 1 OMR credit for both data and calls?
Yes, standard credit can be used for any service. However, it is much cheaper to dial the carrier's code (like *141#) and convert that 1 OMR into a specific data bundle or local minutes package rather than using pay-as-you-go rates.
What is the maximum amount I can recharge?
Most carriers allow recharges up to 50 OMR or 100 OMR in a single transaction. Physical vouchers rarely exceed 10 OMR. For large amounts, digital recharges via banking apps or carrier portals are recommended.
Do recharge codes expire?
Physical voucher cards have an expiry date printed on the back. You must use the code before this date. Once the code is entered, the credit itself will have its own validity period (usually 30 to 365 days) based on the amount and carrier rules.
